What is happening? The Google Sheets connector is unable to locate the specified file. The connection fails because the identifier provided does not point to a valid, accessible spreadsheet.

Error: We could not find the spreadsheet. Please ensure that your spreadsheet is set up correctly.

Why did this happen?
This error typically occurs when the Spreadsheet ID or URL format is incorrect. Common causes include:

  • Malformed URL: The URL includes extra parameters (like specific tab IDs or edit permissions) that confuse the connector.

  • Deleted File: The spreadsheet was moved to the trash or permanently deleted in Google Drive.

  • Permissions Change: The account connected to Alvie no longer has "Viewer" or "Editor" access to the file.

  • New File ID: A sheet was deleted and recreated; even if the name is the same, the unique ID has changed.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Navigate to Settings: Go to the Connectors tab and select your Google Sheets connector.

  2. Locate the Source: Check the Spreadsheet ID or URL field in the configuration.

  3. Action: Clean the identifier.

    • If using a URL: Ensure it stops after the ID.

      • Incorrect: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1234AbCd/edit?gid=0#gid=0

      • Correct: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1234AbCd

Important: Remove any additional parameters like `/edit?gid=0#gid=0` from the URL.

    • If using an ID: Use only the alphanumeric string between the slashes (e.g., 1234AbCd).

  4. External Steps: If the file was deleted, restore it from your Google Drive Trash or Version History. If it cannot be restored, create a new data source with the new file's URL.

β€’ If you deleted and recreated a sheet with the same name, you'll need to set up a new connector

β€’ If the entire spreadsheet was deleted, you'll need to create a new data source with your newly created spreadsheet

  5. Verify: Save the configuration. The specific sheet tab selection will appear in the next step of the settings. Wait 2–5 minutes for the status to turn Healthy (Green)

Prevention & Tips To avoid seeing this error again:

  • Use IDs over URLs: Using the specific Spreadsheet ID is often more reliable than pasting full URLs which may contain tracking parameters.

  • Avoid Deletion: If you need to clear data, clear the cells within the sheet rather than deleting the file or the specific tab.
