What is happening?
The Budget Optimiser is unable to process your custom spend data because the currency format provided in your source file.

Error: The custom spend source has invalid currency code. Please update the custom spend source.

Why did this happen?
This error typically occurs when the "Currency" column in your data source contains text that the system cannot recognize as a valid currency.

Common causes include:

  • Non-Standard Symbols: Using symbols like $ or instead of alphabetic codes.

  • Lowercase or Typos: Entering usd or Usd instead of the required uppercase format.

  • Full Names: Writing out the currency name, such as "US Dollars" or "Euros," instead of the code.

Follow these steps to resolve the issue:

  1. Navigate to Source: Open your custom spend source (typically a Google Sheet or a BigQuery table) linked to the Budget Optimiser.

  2. Locate the Source: Find the column designated for Currency.

  3. Action: Update all entries in that column to match the ISO 4217 standard. This must be a three-letter, uppercase alphabetic code.

    • Incorrect: $, usd, US Dollar, , EUR-1

    • Correct: USD, EUR, GBP, DKK

  4. External Steps (If applicable): If using Google Sheets, ensure there are no trailing spaces in the cells (e.g., "USD " will fail).

  5. Verify: Either request a re-run of the model or wait to turn green on the next daily run. The status should turn Healthy (Green).

Prevention & Tips To avoid seeing this error again:

  • Use Data Validation: If using Google Sheets, set up a dropdown menu for the currency column to ensure only valid ISO codes can be entered.

  • Standardize Input: Always refer to the ISO 4217 Currency Code list when adding new spend data.
